FMSCI to Run INRC for 2012
June 1, 2012: The Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI) today announced their intention to promote and run the 2012 Indian National Rally Championship (INRC) and Indian Rally Championship (IRC). This was revealed after the initial promoter failed to come through at the last minute. The 2012 INRC will see changes to the calendar with 4 events happening towards the end of the year. The FMSCI also confirmed that talks with a broadcast partner are in the final stages and will be confirmed shortly.
President Vicky Chandhok said that FMSCI is committed to putting on the best possible show for all rally fans. He said, "It is unfortunate that the initial promoter failed to come through which has put us in this position. We looked at other possibilities but no one would commit due to it being at such a late stage which we completely understand. For this reason we have decided to run it on our own. Rallying has the potential to be huge in India and we will continue to look for sponsors to partner with us. Due to logistic challenges we will run only four events this year. Last year when I became President it was made clear that rallying would get prominence again and if we have to run this on our own so be it as we are all big rally fans before anything else".
"We are very happy with the clubs who have come forward and agreed to help us run the same. We have explained our position to all the teams, drivers and partners to support our decision to run it as we were left without a choice. This is definitely a setback for us but will only make us stronger to deliver a much better show for us in the years to come. We are very passionate about rallying and are willing to go the extra mile to make sure it is a success".
As announced earlier the INRC will have three classes which will be:
1. INRC Overall GPN /FIA R2 1601cc up to 2000cc
